Kareem Ali - what the hell is lofi house?
Kareem Ali - what the hell is lofi house?
Growing up, Kareem Ali wanted to be a rocket scientist. The New York native (who now lives in
Phoenix) never actually made it into the space program, but his passion for the cosmos remains
intact—in fact, it’s at the core of his artistic vision. Future Black Music, We Are Stardust, Black
Science… these are just a few of the no less than 47 releases he’s dropped in the past two
years, each one mapping out a utopian future in which humanity—and Black people in
particular—can finally carve out an existence that’s free of injustice and oppression.
Afrofuturism is Ali’s guiding light, and iconic innovators such as Sun Ra, Herbie Hancock, Larry
Heard, Underground Resistance and Drexciya have all shaped his worldview. His first musical
love, however, was jazz, and he found an early hero in Miles Davis, whose seminal Kind of Blue
LP prompted Ali to pick up the trumpet back in middle school. More than a decade later, he’s
still playing, and though he now operates in the electronic music realm, it’s clear that Davis’
iconoclastic spirit has found its way into Ali’s work.
Specializing in forward-thinking, space-age sounds, Ali is a lot more concerned with unleashing
his vivid imagination than fitting neatly into any particular genre box. Although late-night gems
like “Night Echoes” have garnered the most attention—Pitchfork described it as “deep house at
its most hypnotic and emotionally resonant”—his extensive catalog also includes forays into
techno, ambient, hip-hop, R&B, garage and even drum & bass. Fueled by a tireless work ethic
and a seemingly endless well of creativity, he’s found an audience and captured the attention of
not just Pitchfork, but other media outlets like Bandcamp Daily and Rolling Stone, who named
his G R O W T H LP one of the Best Albums of 2020. Other artists have also taken notice, as
his tracks have been played and charted by the likes of Four Tet, Pete Tong and Bicep, while
none other than Caribou tapped Ali to appear on his recent Suddenly Remixes EP.
More music is on the way of course, both from Ali and his CosmoFlux label. Having signed with
artist development agency One House (home to acts such as Kevin Saunderson, Sherelle and
Funkineven) and booking agency William Morris (which represents many of the biggest stars in
the world), he’s poised to break big in 2021. In the meantime though, he’ll be grinding at home
in the studio, making tracks and looking at the stars.

Ludger Sylbaris (1 June 1874 – c. 1929, aged 55) was an Afro-Caribbean man who was one of the survivors in the city of Saint-Pierre on the Caribbean island of Martinique during the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée on May 8, 1902. Saint-Pierre, known as the "Paris of the West Indies", was in the direct path of a pyroclastic flow, which destroyed the city and killed an estimated 30,000 people. Sylbaris later travelled with the Barnum & Bailey circus and became something of an early 20th-century celebrity.
Ludger Sylbaris was born on 1 June 1874, on the Habitation La Donneau plantation, near the fishing village of Le Prêcheur, Martinique, about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) north of Saint-Pierre. It is commonly believed that his birth name was either August Cyparis or Louis-Auguste Cyparis, but his actual birth record contradicts this interpretation. Sylbaris worked as a common labourer in the capital city, Saint-Pierre, in the shadow of the volcano Mount Pelée. On the night of 7 May 1902, the night before the eruption, Sylbaris got involved in either a bar fight or a street brawl, according to various sources, and was thrown into jail overnight for assault. Some accounts claim that Sylbaris actually killed a man and was thrown into jail for murder, although it is unknown if this is the correct version of events. Many sources indicate Sylbaris was frequently in trouble with the authorities. Some fictional accounts state that he had a precognitive dream and was locked up as a drunk after causing a riot.
The cell which saved the life of Ludger Sylbaris, "the man who lived through Doomsday."
Whatever the cause of his arrest, Sylbaris was ordered to be put into solitary confinement and locked in a single-cell, bomb-proof magazine with stone walls that was built partially underground. The cell did not have windows and was ventilated only through a narrow grating in the door facing away from the volcano. His prison was the most sheltered building in the city, and this saved his life. The cell in which he survived still stands today. At 7:52 AM on May 8, the upper mountainside of Mount Pelée tore open, causing a dense black cloud to shoot out horizontally. A second black cloud rolled upwards as a column of ash and rock, forming a gigantic mushroom plume that darkened the sky within a 50-mile (80 km) radius. The initial speed of both clouds was later calculated at more than 670 km/h (420 mph). The vertical cloud plunged down the western slope of the volcano, raced down at 161 kilometers per hour, and destroyed Saint-Pierre in less than a minute. The area devastated by the pyroclastic flow covered about 21 km2 (8.1 sq mi), with the city of Saint-Pierre taking its full brunt. The cloud consisted of superheated gases and fine debris, with searing temperatures of over 1,000 °C (1,830 °F). All of the city's infrastructure was flattened, and almost the entire population burned or suffocated.
Saint Pierre - Over 30,000 people lost there lives..
Four days after the eruption, a rescue team heard Sylbaris' cries from the rubble of the prison. Although badly burned, he survived and was able to provide an account of the event. According to his account, at about breakfast time on the day of the eruption, it grew very dark. Hot air mixed with fine ashes entered his cell through the door grating, despite his efforts in urinating on his clothing and stuffing it in the door. The heat lasted only a short moment, enough to cause deep burns on Sylbaris' hands, arms, legs, and back, but his clothes did not ignite, and he avoided breathing the searing hot air.

southstar is a German record producer and DJ who rose to popularity with his 2022 release of Miss You. The song is a rework of Oliver Tree’s Jerk using the original lyrics. It was later re-released as a 1:1 reproduced copy by fellow German DJ Robin Schulz and Oliver Tree under the same name. Nathan Dawe
Nathan Dawe was born in Burton upon Trent on 25 May 1994 and attended Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Sports College. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa football club. He built a loyal following by releasing mixes on Soundcloud. Rather than the usual genre-specific mixes being put out, he released mashup multi-genre mixes covering everything from house music to hip-hop, reggae, bassline and pop. Nathan was the first DJ without a radio show or hit single to sell out his own concert at the O2. He said, "It took me to the point where I was headlining massive festivals and performing sell out shows in huge clubs. I knew that wouldn't last forever, particularly with the rise of things like Spotify, so I set up a four-year plan and delved deeper into the production side of the industry." He began remixing other producers in his early twenties.

Berlin Brandenburg gate
The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin. One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was erected on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to Brandenburg an der Havel, the former capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. The current structure was built from 1788 to 1791 by orders of King Frederick William II of Prussia, based on designs by the royal architect Carl Gotthard Langhans. The bronze sculpture of the quadriga crowning the gate is a work by the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow.
