Pop Smoke

[Intro: Adele]
Sometimes, I wake up by the door
That heart you caught must be waitin' for you (Exetra Beatz made it)
Even now, when we're already over
I can't help myself from lookin' for you

[Chorus: Adele & Luciano]
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name
Your name
I set fire to the rain (ja, ja)
And I threw us into the flames (ja, ja)
When it fell, somethin' died (ih-yeah, ih-ja)
'Cause I knew that that was the last time
The last time (Yeah, ah)

[Verse 1: Luciano]

Cold way
Jacky like vitamin
Constant question of what will happen next When life will
be better
Didn't want to see the road any further
Find my light, ah
dear music, I don't stop I've fallen in love (Yes)
Where else should
I look?
In front of hundreds of fake friends?
Nights in the studio my way
out But I'm a little homesick
Tell me, where else should I look?
Before me only poison, ah
Don't
trust you For before me the demon, what shall I give him? (Ah)
Hard road
Everything here hard-earned
Open the doors for la family
They'll be better off It's
all just fighters, look, the gang
I'm looking at my daddy (Pride)
Go my ways, but always stay humble
That made me different

[Chorus: Adele & Luciano]
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name
Your name
I set fire to the rain (ja, ja)
And I threw us into the flames (ja, ja)
When it fell, somethin' died (Ih-yeah, ih-ja)
'Cause I knew that that was the last time
The last time (Yeah, ah)

[Verse 2: Pop Smoke]
If my mans down, nigga, I up and get 'em
Max Payne, I'm toting TECs and Berettas
Never trust a boy, it's always the setup
If I see an opp, I bet I'ma wet 'em
New speed, I bet I change up the level
Make it rain, I bet I change up the weather
To walk through, I need twenty five and better
Old hundreds, have 'em sticking together
Hollow tips got acquired taste
Get straight, boy, my brother an ape
Catch a body, then I'm back in the cave
If you don't got a body, you can't relate
If you don't bang, you can't get in the car
Big woo, know I'm shooting them stars
Mama begging me to pray to Allah
Walk in the mall, niggas know who we are

[Pre-Chorus: Pop Smoke]
Hopped in a Wraith, yeah
Hopped in a Wraith, yeah

[Chorus: Adele & Luciano]
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name
Your name
I set fire to the rain (ja, ja)
And I threw us into the flames (ja, ja)
When it fell, somethin' died (Ih-yeah, ih-ja)
'Cause I knew that that was the last time

Bashar Barakah Jackson (July 20, 1999 – February 19, 2020), known professionally as Pop Smoke, was an American rapper. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, he rose to fame with the release of his breakout singles "Welcome to the Party" and "Dior" in 2019. He often collaborated with UK drill artists and producers, who employed more minimal and aggressive instrumentation than American drill artists from Chicago, reintroducing the sound as Brooklyn drill.

Following his rise to fame, record producer Rico Beats introduced Pop Smoke to Steven Victor in April 2019. Victor would later have Pop Smoke sign a recording contract with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records. He released his debut mixtape Meet the Woo in July 2019. His second mixtape, Meet the Woo 2, was released on February 7, 2020, and debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, becoming the rapper's first top-10 project in the United States.

Twelve days after the mixtape's release, Pop Smoke was murdered during a home invasion in Los Angeles. New York rapper 50 Cent was the executive producer of his posthumous debut studio album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, released on July 3, 2020. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and all 19 tracks from the album were charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also spawned a string of international top-10 singles, including "For the Night" (featuring DaBaby and Lil Baby) and "What You Know Bout Love". A year later, Republic Records released Pop Smoke's second studio album, Faith, on July 16, 2021.

Bashar Barakah Jackson was born on July 20, 1999, in Brooklyn, New York City, to a Jamaican mother, Audrey Jackson, and a Panamanian father, Greg Jackson. He had an older brother named Obasi. Jackson attended nine different schools while growing up in Canarsie, Brooklyn. He played the African drums in his local church as a child.

Jackson was expelled from eighth grade for bringing a gun to school. He spent two years on house arrest after being charged with possessing a weapon. Jackson started playing basketball as a point and shooting guard. He relocated to Philadelphia to enroll in Rocktop Academy. He was later forced to leave after being diagnosed with a heart murmur, and Jackson eventually turned to street life.

On February 19, 2020, Jackson was renting a house through Airbnb owned by The Real Housewives star Teddi Mellencamp and her husband, Edwin Arroyave, in Hollywood Hills, California. At around 4:30 a.m., five hooded men, including one wearing a ski mask and carrying a handgun, broke into the house through a second-story balcony. The intruders held a gun to a woman's head and threatened to kill her. Shortly thereafter, the woman heard the men shoot Jackson three times after an altercation.

The LAPD received news of the home invasion from a call from the East Coast. Police arrived at the home six minutes later and found Jackson with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where doctors performed a thoracotomy on the left side of his chest. A few hours later, he was pronounced dead. He was 20 years old. On February 21, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner revealed that the cause of Jackson's death was a gunshot wound to the chest.

The LAPD at first suspected that Jackson's death was gang-related, as he was tied to the Crips. However, the LAPD later believed his death was the consequence of a home robbery gone wrong. It was believed the intruders stole Jackson's gold watch and other jewelry before running away from the house. In May 2021, a 15-year-old, the youngest of the four intruders, allegedly admitted to killing Jackson over a diamond-studded Rolex during a recorded interview with a cellmate at a juvenile detention center. The 15-year-old told the cellmate that Jackson at first complied with their requests for jewelry but then tried to fight them, and a confrontation broke out in which Jackson was pistol-whipped and shot with a Beretta M92. The intruders made off with his Rolex, which they sold for $2,000.

The day before his murder, Jackson and friend Michael Durodola posted several images on social media, including one in which Mellencamp's home address can be seen in the background. The rapper also posted a story on Instagram and Facebook of gifts he had received. One showed the house's full address on the packaging, giving out its location.

Jackson's body was originally planned to be buried at the Cypress Hills Cemetery but was later changed to Green-Wood Cemetery. Family, friends, and fans of Jackson gathered in his hometown of Canarsie, Brooklyn, to show their respects. His casket was pulled in a horse-drawn carriage and was surrounded by glass windows and white curtains. On September 11, 2021, it was discovered that his grave site was vandalized, with the headstone smashed.

On July 9, 2020, three adult men and two minors were arrested for the murder of the rapper. One of the adult suspects has been charged with murder with a special circumstance that alleged the killing was committed "during the commission of a robbery and a burglary", and another charged with attempted murder. The two juveniles were charged with murder and robbery in juvenile court. As California law requires a minor to be at least 16 at the time of the crime, the 15-year-old could not be tried as an adult; and, under George Gascón's policy to keep all juveniles in juvenile court, the 17-year-old could not be tried as an adult, either.

Jackson's parents, Audrey and Greg Jackson, shared memories of their son before saying how gun violence took him away from them.

On February 19th, at 4:00 AM, a gun was used to take my son from me. You know him as Pop Smoke, we called him 'Shar'. Because of gun violence, I'll never see my son run up the front of our steps, taking them two at a time; he won't ever take my hands again and dance with me; he won't come into my room and muscle pose in the mirror. Gun violence destroys families. It must stop.

— Audrey Jackson during a "Gun Violence Destroys Families" public service announcement

Sound Of Legend

Do you push the concept like superheroes, like practicing martial arts or whatever?

SOUND OF LEGEND: Yes, I love martial arts. I've practiced it, but today, no, I'm more focused on training, but it's true that I love sport, it's essential. When I'm on stage and you have to move for 1h30 under a mask, you still have to have a little bit of cardio. I don't have the best cardio in the world, but you have to do a minimum of sport when you do these concepts.

Now, we're going to put ourselves in a parallel universe, if Sound Of Legend hadn't been a DJ, what would he have done for a job?

yes superhero... And I think I would have flown more. Because I don't know how to fly. I know how to fly, but I'm going to take your satchel, I'm going to run away, but that's not really flying. I would have really practiced flying. When people ask me about my superpowers, I say "yes I can fly". OK, I'll take something, I'll get out of the way quickly, it's a joke, but hey, I really would have liked to fly... I tried! I hurt myself, I said "come on, it's okay, I'll stop, I'll move on to the music" (laughs).

Do you have a particular physical preparation or a strict lifestyle to stay on top with your lifestyle?

Lifestyle, it depends on the time... If I see that I'm really going to rotate a lot, then I pay attention to what I eat. I do a bit of sport, I rest, which is very complicated when you're shooting. And then, there are times when I can let go because I love pizza. Well, it doesn't help with the diet (laughs): I don't know 0% pizza, it's very hard to find (laughs). But hey, for example, for the World Cup I put on 4-5 packets of crisps because I was stressed... Well, they were little ones with different tastes but I still put on packets of chips.

Do you push the concept like superheroes, like practicing martial arts or whatever?

SOUND OF LEGEND: Yes, I love martial arts. I've practiced it, but today, no, I'm more focused on training, but it's true that I love sport, it's essential. General Levy

Paul Scott Levy (born 28th April 1971), also known as General Levy, is an English ragga deejay, regularly employed on studio tracks by drum and bass DJs. He is best known for the track "Incredible" which he recorded with M-Beat. A remixed version of this reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart in 1994. General Levy was born in Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal, London on 28 April 1971. He is of Trinidadian descent. Levy's formative years were spent in Harlesden and Wembley in the London Borough of Brent in northwest London. Levy's musical influence was developed in the area, collecting dancehall tapes, beginning in 1981. At the age of 12, General Levy began writing lyrics and went on to form his first sound system with friends, two years later, named Third Dimension. General Levy was ostracized by the UK jungle scene in 1994, due to mis-reported comments he made relating to his collaboration with M-Beat on "Incredible". He had claimed in an interview with The Face that "I run jungle at the moment". This controversy has since died down and he is now being cited as one of the 25 UK MCs "who changed the game".

Push The Body sees Doctor Jeep continuing to explore his Latin roots with three tracks influenced by his Brazilian heritage. Title track "Push The Body" twists a baile funk vocal into a mechanized dubstep-turn-techno hybrid with a surprise rhythm switch halfway through to keep dancers on their toes, while the rolling drums and undulating bassline of "Rolla Dex" harkens back to Jeep's childhood listening to Samba. Finally, "Reso Danz" slows the tempo down for a warehouse-ready dembow mutation featuring his signature sound design.

It is for that reason that their name has become a real stamp of authority and invention in the dance music world. Whatever they do, then, this pair do with irresistible charm.
