Vril
At its best, dub techno taps into a primal sense of movement. Some of the best examples of the genre extend way beyond the 10 minute mark, and can be characterised by repetitive rhythms and patterns. What’s most effective is when a track taps into a beat and gets the listener locked in, where you’re entranced for the duration.
There’s an indescribable vibe present, where everything else is inconsequential and all that matters are the sounds emanating from your headphones or the speakers in a club. Whichever way you’re listening, what comes across as a simple formula is in reality a tricky balancing act between compelling and boring.
There are plenty of bedroom producers seeking to emulate Deepchord or J.S. Zeiter, for example, but few can match the soul that dwells beneath those sounds. Vril is one such producer fervently bearing the torch of dub techno, whilst also incorporating elements of ambient and experimental house music. His latest full length, ‘Animist’, is an immersive 12-track album that blankets the listener with blistering, recurring patterns and tones. At its highs, it’s an exemplary addition to the artist’s discography and justifies the cult hype that Vril has forged.

‘Animist’ takes its time before offering up any hammering, club-like tracks; instead, the album is constructed like a live set: teasing the listener with ambient/house hybrids bound with an intense, mutated dance rhythm. The album’s opening quarter highlights this dynamic, as the title track, “Love Rollout,” and “Zūkunftsstrāße” prime the listener for the appropriately titled “Katharsis.”
The latter’s sharp synths and persistent beat ebb and flow like a cascading wave careening through your speakers. It makes for an effective slow burn opening to ‘Animist,’ as the high energy tracks are matched by one or more slower tunes to hype you for the next build up.
The apex of ‘Animist’ arrives with the one-two punch of “Kuru” and “Anomal Beta.” Both tracks hone in on what Vril does best: hypnotic, reverberating bangers for the late night/early morning sets. “Kuru” immediately hooks you with its clanging percussion that makes way for warped, narcotic keys gliding along a crunchy vibe that you never want to stop. That same momentum fuels “Anomal Beta,” a similarly propulsive, floor-shaking epic.

Laurent Garnier (born 1 February 1966), also known as Choice, is a French electronic music producer and DJ. Garnier began DJing in Manchester during the late 1980s. He became a producer in the early 1990s and recorded several albums. In 1984, Garnier started working as a waiter at the French Embassy in London. He started playing with DJ Nelson, a.k.a. DJ Stan, at a French club. He stayed there for a year and a half before moving to Manchester in 1986. Living in England he discovered the booming UK house scene and started DJing, including at the Haçienda.
In 1987, he discovered The Haçienda in Manchester, and met Mike Pickering the resident DJ. Chicago house and Detroit techno became popular, and Garnier started mixing there under the name of DJ Pedro. In 1988, he went back to France to fulfill his military obligations. He also spent some time in New York City where he met Frankie Knuckles. Garnier shifted his attention back to France in the early 1990s, running the Wake Up parties at the Rex Club in Paris for three years, and in Dijon from 1990 to 1994 at L'An-Fer while in 1992 he played a three-night long Weekender set at the Cork venue, Sir Henry's. He also mixed in clubs such as Le Palace or Le Boy, DJing in rave parties and gradually moving into recording as well. For the FNAC label, Garnier released "French Connection" and the A Bout de Souffle EP. After that label went out of business, he formed the F Communications label with Eric Morand (a friend who had also worked for Fnac).

His first album, Shot in the Dark, was released in 1995. His second, 30, appeared in 1997 and included one of Garnier's best selling singles, "Crispy Bacon". 30 was followed by the retrospective Early Works. After appearing worldwide with DJ appearances during the late 1990s, Garnier returned to production with Unreasonable Behaviour, released in early 2000, which featured one of his best known songs, "The Man with the Red Face".

Bartosz Kruczyněski has been releasing records for a few years now. His releases come in the form of ambient / minimal music albums under his own name, sample-based explorations of Polish heritage as half of Ptaki or new age infused deep house under his most prolific moniker to date, The Phantom.
I was growing up in a small city in Poland, so my early heroes were mostly larger acts I knew from TV – The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers. On the other hand – my dad used to listen to new age and electronic bands like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Andreas Vollenweider, Kitaro so these kind of stuck with me as well. Thanks to the Internet and finally going to clubs in larger cities (moved to Warsaw to study there) I started exploring producers beyond the mainstream.

Forester - When I Fall Asleep (with Jai Wolf) (Live Performance)

The systems of nature are at once deeply complex and gracefully simple. Given that Forester’s music functions similarly, it makes sense that they named themselves after the woods. The Los Angeles-based indie electronic duo, David Parris and Xander Carlson, make lush soundscapes both inspired by and evocative of views from a mountain, deep pink sunsets, wind through the trees and the stars on a clear night. The nourishing effect these things have on a human soul? That’s how they want their music to make you feel. The cool thing is that it does. “There’s a section along the trail from Yosemite to Mount Whitney called Forester Pass,” Carlson says. “Hiking it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. The freedom I felt up there, we're trying to put that energy in the music.” Based in Los Angeles, the longtime friends launched the Forester project in 2019, working nine-to-five gigs and making music together at night. They experienced immediate success with their debut single “Spark” – a deep exhale of a track that was picked up by YouTube tastemaker Trap Nation, signed to its label Lowly Palace and has since collected more than 5.7 million streams on Spotify. True to its name, the song was an auspicious beginning that caught the ear of an A&R at Kygo’s Palm Tree Records, where Forester signed in 2020.

This was all of course happening in the dark heart of the pandemic, a moment that offered Parris and Carlson, both then recent college grads, time to just make music. They got in the car and drove north to Carlson’s family cabin in Mammoth Lakes, California, on the eastern slope of the vast Sierra Nevada mountain range. “Nobody was around, stores were closed,” Carlson recalls. “We spent months there creating music. It was a prolific time for us.” Here, at 8,000 feet, the guys further developed the Forester sound, which falls into a dreamy, achingly emotional and thoroughly sophisticated, middle ground between the indie folk of Bon Iver – a hero to both Parris and Carlson – and melody-focused electronic giants like Avicii. The music made in the mountains became their 2020 sophomore LP, A Range Of Light. The album’s theme is healing through nature – a phenomenon they experienced while making it, with time off spent swimming, hiking, off-roading in the back country and taking in the night sky.“I had been chronically sick for a while and was finally figuring out why,” recalls Carlson, “and that trip to Mammoth was the turning point for me in terms of healing.” “It was a weird time getting out of college and experiencing the isolation of the pandemic. You feel the weight of the world,” says Parris. “With the music we were making in Mammoth,” adds Carlson, “we were trying to encapsulate the beautiful moments, so people can consume them wherever they are and hopefully have a moment of escape too.”
In 2011, Saha started producing electronic music under the moniker No Pets Allowed. Within a few years, his mashups and bootleg remixes began to generate attention, quickly rising within the internet music community. In February 2014, Saha decided to part ways with the project and begin what is now known as Jai Wolf. Within the first few months, the project began to land a string of official remix opportunities for established artists including Melanie Martinez, Dirty South, Alesso and Odesza – each remix landing the No. 1 spot on Hype Machine. In late 2014, Skrillex turned Jai Wolf's bootleg remix of "Ease My Mind" into an official remix.

Otto Yliperttula (born October 8, 1986), known professionally by his stage name, Yotto, is a Finnish DJ, songwriter, and record producer. Currently residing in Helsinki, Finland, Yotto is signed to an English Deep house label, Anjunadeep. Yotto came to limelight with a string of remixes and originals that caught the ear of Anjunadeep label boss, James Grant. Deemed "a man of many sounds" by Billboard and "an experimental house talent" by Dancing Astronaut, he produces a number of styles within the house music genre and sometimes other forms of electronic music. As well as his own solo releases and releases on Joris Voorn's Green Recordings, Yliperttula has worked alongside other DJs and producers such as Above & Beyond, Coldplay, M83, London Grammar, Rüfüs, Lane 8, and Super8 & Tab. Yotto has also collaborated with his younger brother who performed vocals on tracks like "Wondering" under the alias Caps. He released his debut album, Hyperfall, through Anjunadeep in 2018.

The son of musically inclined parents and the sibling of a vocalist, Yliperttula grew up in a musical family. He started taking classical piano lessons as a young child and played regularly until the age of 14. As a teenager, skateboard culture influenced a wide range of personal preferences for West Coast hip hop music, and heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Manic Street Preachers. This eclectic taste in music that enabled Yliperttula to stay open-minded and not get deeply vested into any one genre, instead just listening to music he enjoyed.

OTYKEN - PHENOMENON (Official Music Video)

Otyken (Old Turkic:𐰇𐱅𐰜𐰤, romanized: Ötüken; Russian: Отукен, OH-too-kyen) is a Russian Siberian indigenous music group that mixes elements of modern pop with local folk music, incorporating traditional instruments, lyrics, and languages. 'Otyken' is a word that is used in Chulym and other Turkic languages for a sacred land where warriors would lay down their arms and talk. The band was formed in 2015 by Andrey Medonos, and their debut album was released in 2018. As of January 2023, the group has over two million followers on Tiktok, over one hundred and twenty thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and seven hundred seventy five thousand subscribers on YouTube. The band members are of Siberian ethnicities and live in tiny villages along the Chulym river in the taiga of Krasnoyarsk Krai.

The group's career began by performing traditional songs representative of their culture; later, modern elements of rock and pop were blended over this folk foundation to create greater appeal for global audiences. Their homemade costumes also incorporate historic and modern design elements for this same reason. Otyken's music is performed with traditional instruments such as the komuz, igil, jaw harp, rattle, tambourine, and leather drum, although modern instruments such as the keyboard, bass guitar, and saxophone have been used. Throat singing is also frequently implemented. Many of the group's sounds, both instrumental and vocal, attempt to mimic the sounds of nature and animals, while the lyrics try to capture the practices, beliefs, and spirit of the indigenous people. The language is mostly in Chulym Tatar, which had only 44 speakers in 2010 and about 25 speakers in 2020; some songs are also sung in Khakas or Russian.

Stardust II - a hypnotic electronica - Caught In Joy
Stardust II is my hypnotic electronica joy from M.E. album. I tried to capture the beauty of playing analog sequencers / modular synthesizers and guitar pedals. Musically it sounds a bit like a spaceship landed at Robin Hood's castle, but...I really like this Warhol-like style of music mashups. All my recent songs are fully improvised and performed "dawless". For those of you who want to get more into my music here’s (I think) a really cool offer. For $5/month on Bandcamp you will get the high quality versions of all my 24 electronic music albums plus all the new releases. I’m releasing a new full-length album a month and I really would love to continue doing so, but just can’t make it without your help. You'll support me as I transition into a professional musician capable of sustaining my family solely through my music and it absolutely means a world to me. Thank you very much for considering this. The French-born London-based artist has been making furor as part of the legendary synth-pop formation Planet 1999 but felt that the time was right to discover music more on her own. When I’m working with Planet or I’m working on synth loops, I need the music to have a personality. Sometimes, even songs where I put vocals on, I could imagine them without my vocals, and they’d still transmit the same thing. I don’t know if I’m much of a lyrics-person because it’s more important to me how it sounds. My relationship with music primarily is with the melodies and doesn’t need the words. A good example is when you listen to a song in a language you don’t speak. You can be very touched, but you don’t have an idea what the person is saying. I love to make instrumentals, and it can be perfect as it is.

I'm not there

When you get what you crave
And throw it out
So much care
A heavy sound
Yeah, it darkens the way

[Chorus]
Waves only get bigger
Don't wait on the sand
Trust that you know better
You cut a lone figure
Don't wait on the sun
Trust that it gets better
[Verse 2]
Trace it back
You break it now just to feel something
The weight of that
Will press you down to paper thin
And no, I
No, I don't like the words you're saying
Well don't wait until you fall again
Or give in
[Chorus]
Waves only get bigger
Don't wait on the sand
Trust that you know better

This Conversation Is Getting Boring
This Conversation Is Getting Boring · Acopia

Acopia can be defined as a pejorative term used to describe a person’s inability to cope with activities of daily living. It was during a period in 2019 that three close friends who could be described as experiencing Acopia, came together to form this project.

For You I Try
For You I Try · Acopia
Their debut release, opening with the title track, ‘For You I Try’, is a warm, pleasant and deeply tranquil listen. What is particularly enduring is an eerily familiar sense of ever-so-slight unease, or perhaps, a feeling of self-doubt or introspection.
That’s not to say this is depressing music by any stretch. By all accounts, it’s extremely danceable. More so that the sheer emotive power carefully poured into each and every arrangement in this song leaves such an imitable imprint on you, that it demands further thought.

Logic 1000
Logic1000 is the moniker of reclusive Sydney born, London based producer Samantha Poulter. Her unique production process conjures concepts, genres, samples, UK-centric dance rhythms, hyper-accurate digital synths and disembodied textures.

Yunè Pinku
Asha Catherine Nandy (born December 2002), known by the stage name Yunè Pinku, is a British musician whose work blends garage with other forms of electronic music. She has released two EPs, Bluff and Babylon IX, the latter of which charted at No. 8 on the UK Dance Albums Chart; she is also a member of ESEA Music, and has been cited as an inspiration by Piri.
Asha Catherine Nandy was born in December 2002, and grew up in Bermondsey; her mother was an Irish Catholic and her father was a Malaysian Hindu. Her family was musical, and her uncles and grandparents spent time trying to teach her Irish instruments such as the tin whistle. She was predominantly raised by her mother, who was chairman of the St Patrick's Festival in Trafalgar Square, and growing up, she would spend a quarter of each year in Cork in Ireland. As a child, she was raised on a mix of Irish traditional music, trance music and the Black Eyed Peas; after tiring of her mother's trance music, she began listening to artists such as Madonna and Billy Joel, and she held several jobs including as a bartender, a Prada intern, and as a crystal shop assistant, where her clientele included mothers wanting assistance with a problem they had and tough guys hoping not to be noticed. She spent five years in Catholic school; having been interested in creative writing from a young age, she studied it at university, dropping out after a month after deciding she had better uses of her time.

Nandy played the piano as a child, although her first proper musical experiments were conducted as a teenager after her cousin sent her a blank website with production software on it, on which she initially made bedroom pop. Later, she developed an affinity with electronic music during the first lockdown after realising that it could be listened to outside of a club; her first works were derived from samples of post-war radio broadcasts, and her earliest works used her voice only as background, though she later made her voice more prominent after finding her vocals conducive to expressing emotions, and by the end of lockdown, she had produced over 150 songs, which she had shared mostly with her then-boyfriend. Her first published works were uploaded to SoundCloud, using the stage name Yunè Pinku; in a March 2022 NME interview, she asserted that she derived her name from her childhood nickname Yunè, the Japanese word for 'cloudy', and Pinku, from her love of Pingu, a Swiss children's program. Although she had friends in the music industry, many of them did not make the same type of music as her, which meant it took her a while to show them her work.

Pingu became popular outside of Switzerland, particularly in the United Kingdom and Japan, in part due to its lack of a real spoken language: Nearly all dialogue is in an invented grammelot "penguin language" referred to as 'Penguinese' or 'Pinguish', consisting of babbling, muttering, and the titular character's characteristic sporadic honking sound, which can be popularly recognized as "Noot noot!" or other variants (stated to be "Noo, noo!" by the defunct Pingu website's trivia page), accompanied by turning his beak into a megaphone-like shape.

"Back To Life"
Back to life, back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Keep on you girl, haven't said enough
No one set themselves good as me (back to life)
And the way it felt was like automatic
But there's no one, there's no one just like you (back to life)
I keep on wasting my time away
Never felt this way, not before (back to life)
I keep on waiting for you anyway
But there's no one else, no one else like you
Back to life, back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life (I'm alive, I'm alive), back to life (I'm alive, I'm alive)
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life
Don't want to worry, hear it in the hallway
Looking back I always felt this way (yeah)
Don't want to lose you, in my mind adore you
If it's just a moment that myself could believe (back to life)
I keep on wasting my time away
Never felt this way, not before (back to life)
I keep on waiting for you anyway
But there's no one else, no one else like you
Can you bring me back life?
Back to life, back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life (and I don't worry), back to life (and I don't worry)
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life
I'm alive I'm alive, I'm alive I'm alive
You bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life
And I don't worry, and I don't worry
You bring me back, bring me back to life
Back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life (bring me back to life)
Bring me back, bring me back to life
Bring me back, bring me back to life (back to life)
I'm alive I'm alive (back to life), I'm alive I'm alive
Bring me back, bring me back to life (bring me back to life)
I'm alive I'm alive (you bring me back to life), I'm alive I'm alive
Bring me back, bring me back to life

Paramount Pictures has confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will open in theatres on December 20th, 2024. This will be a little over two-and-a-half years after Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which landed in cinemas in April 2022. However, December 20th, 2024 is currently the same date that James Cameron’s untitled third Avatar film is hitting theatres, so it remains to be seen whether that date for the Sonic threequel will stick. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and its April 2020 predecessor have grossed over $700 million USD (about $901.6 million CAD) worldwide, making them some of the most successful — and more well-received — video game movies to date. They’re based on the Sega platformer franchise of the same name, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Directed by Jeff Fowler, the first two Sonic movies followed the titular hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he fights the evil Dr. Robotnik (Newmarket, Ontario’s own Jim Carrey). The sequel introduced fan-favourite characters Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) and Tails (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessy, reprising the role from the games).
