Swiss watchmaker Swatch has said authorities in Malaysia raided its stores and confiscated 164 watches that were part of its Pride Collection. The watches come in a choice of six colours, matching those on the Pride flag, and have two rainbow loops on their straps. In the predominantly Muslim country, same-sex relationships are illegal and people could face up to 20 years in prison if the rules are broken, for sodomy under Islamic laws.

Inspired by the 1957 cover of Detective Comics #241, Batman dons the colors of the rainbow in DC Collectible’s Batman Rainbow Action Figure 6-pack! In the comic, Batman wears a collection of colored costumes to draw attention away from his sidekick, Robin, after he injured his left arm in his civilian identity as Dick Grayson. With villains to fight off and Robin not being able to use his left arm, Batman uses his clever costume changes as a distraction in order to protect Robin’s identity. These vibrant figures are sure to add color to your collection. Each action figure measures approximately 6 2/3-inches tall.

Bonney was the last UK serviceman to be imprisoned for his sexuality before the UK ban on LGBT+ military personnel was overturned. He was sentenced to six months in prison after being court-martialled in 1993, his dishonourable discharge only annulled after a later appeal. Bonney joined Tatchell to lay a wreath of red poppies, LGBT+ Pride flags and the pink triangle to honour the LGBT+ troops who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom. Tatchell added: “It is right that we honour all those who fought for freedom, including women, Black and LGBT+ military personnel.”

(Swedish Armed Forces)

The Försvarsmakten (Swedish Armed Forces) shared a message of solidarity on social media this week Jul 30 2018

as the country hosts the EuroPride celebration in Stockholm and Gothenburg. The official social media accounts of the Armed Forces, which has long celebrated LGBT-inclusivity, shared a picture of two soldiers in rainbow camo under the slogan: “We don’t always march straight.” The caption said: “No matter when or where we march, we always stand up for your right to live the way you want with whoever you want.”

The Armed Forces planned a number of events for the Pride celebrations ahead of the march in Gothenburg, including a performance from the Swedish military band and a display by parachutists carrying rainbow flags. In its announcement of the event series, the Armed Forces wrote: “We stand up for the values we are tasked with defending. “The Swedish Armed Forces is an inclusive workplace where we view people’s diversity as a strength. “We have been proud Pride participants since the turn of the millennium because it is important that we take a stand and show that we will stand up for the equal worth of all people – whatever their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.” The release added: “We practice for what we know is necessary today, plan for what we know will be required tomorrow, and adapt to the developments we cannot predict. “We defend Sweden, the country’s interests, our freedoms, and the right to live as we choose.

Pride-Cocktail-Recipe-10.jpg
rainbow-shots-featured-image (1).jpg

If you’re looking for a delicious and refreshing summer cocktail, look no further than the rainbow paradise cocktail. This colorful rainbow cocktail drink recipe is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re entertaining guests at a garden BBQ or just unwinding with a few friends on a hot summer day.

To prepare this drink, you will need pineapple juice, white rum or coconut rum, water, grenadine, blue curacao, and ice!
Pour grenadine syrup into a hurricane or pint glass. Using a shot glass, measure out the other ingredients. A shot glass usually holds 2oz.
Fill the entire glass with ice. In a separate cup, mix pineapple juice and rum. In another cup, mix water and blue curacao.
Pour the pineapple juice/rum mixture into the glass with the grenadine syrup.

Pour the blue curacao mixture into the glass on top of that very very slowly – it helps to use a spoon.
Garnish with an umbrella or lemon slice – or both!

Ingredients

  • 4 oz pineapple juice

  • 2 oz white or coconut rum

  • 1 oz water

  • 1 oz grenadine

  • 1 oz blue curacao

  • ice

Shot Glass Rainbow Drink.

Step 1: Add the grenadine to the bottom of the shot glass.

Step 2: Gently pour the orange juice down the back of a spoon, on top of the grenadine layer.

Step 3: Mix the blue curaçao and water together. Then, pour the mixture down the back of a spoon on top of the orange juice layer.

  • Make them in advance. Make these shots up to a couple hours in advance and store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them. More time than this and the layers may not look quite as crisp as they begin to bleed.

It was sometime in the summer of 1967 and I was getting off work as a waitress.  I was closing up the Rainbow Restaurant in Muskego / New Berlin Wisconsin at around 1:00 AM.  I was with the owner, cook and a county sheriff.  As we left we noticed a large flying disc directly in front of us about a football field away.  It was about 100-200 feet above the ground hovering.  We were all awestruck, stood there holding hands except the cook who started to panic and tried to get back into the restaurant and when she couldn't she got in her car and left immediately. The Sheriff ran to his car and called his dispatch saying, "You're not going to believe what I'm seeing!"

Dispatch replied with, "People are seeing it all over the county!" It was large metallic and circular, it had a large glowing bubble underneath it. I thought it was the control center.  It had what looked like windows in it but we couldn’t see in. It hovered in place for a few minutes and started to jump back and forth through the sky.  It jumped several times and then shot up miles into the sky and disappeared. I thought it was beautiful.  I was never scared.  In fact I wanted to see it again.  For years afterward I would take my children outside and lay on a blanket on clear nights to look up into the skies.  I never saw anything again, but I wanted to!

Rainbow Warrior was a Greenpeace ship involved in campaigns against whaling, seal hunting, nuclear testing and nuclear waste dumping during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure (the French intelligence service) bombed Rainbow Warrior in the Port of Auckland, New Zealand on 10 July 1985, sinking the ship and killing photographer Fernando Pereira.

navy-explosion.gif

The Portugal-born Greenpeace photographer Fernando Pereira had joined the crew of the Rainbow Warrior to document the French nuclear testing and bring his photographs to the world.

He was caught in a rush of water that night, and drowned. He had just celebrated his 35th birthday. Rainbow Warrior, then captained by Peter Willcox, was sabotaged and sunk just before midnight NZST on 10 July 1985, by two explosive devices attached to the hull by operatives of the French intelligence service (DGSE). One of the twelve people on board, photographer Fernando Pereira, returned to the ship after the first explosion to attempt to retrieve his equipment, and was killed when the ship was sunk by the second, larger explosion.

Only two agents ever stood trial. Dominique Prieur and Alain Mafart, who had posed as Swiss tourists, pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter and wilful damage, attracting sentences of 10 and 7 years. A UN negotiated settlement meant that they were transferred to Hao atoll, a French military base in French Polynesia. They were both released within less than two years. The spy who infiltrated the Greenpeace New Zealand office ahead of the bombing, Christine Cabon, evaded arrest in Israel. She hasn’t been seen since. The whereabouts of the combat frogman with the alias Jean-Michel Berthelot – one of the two divers believed to have planted the bombs – are unknown. Most of those involved in what happened that night in an Auckland harbour have simply disappeared.

The wreck of Rainbow Warrior was refloated on 21 August 1985 and moved to a naval harbour for forensic examination. Although the hull had been recovered, the damage was too extensive for repair and the vessel was scuttled in Matauri Bay in the Cavalli Islands, New Zealand, on 12 December 1987, to serve as a dive wreck and artificial reef to promote marine life. The hull is now covered with a large colony of varicoloured sea anemones. The masts were salvaged and now stand outside the Dargaville Museum. A second ship, also named Rainbow Warrior, was acquired in 1989 whilst a third ship of the same name was built from scratch and launched in October 2011.

The Rainbow Warrior was named after a North American Cree Indian prophecy: “When the world is sick and dying, the people will rise up like Warriors of the Rainbow…”

On its bow she proudly carried a dove of peace carrying an olive branch – never leaving any doubt about her non-violent mission. All around her hull, there were the striking colours of the rainbow.

Rainbow Bridge officially opened

On Monday 22nd November 2010 night the streets of Phnom Penh were full, there were market stalls and music, fairground rides and partygoers crowding every available inch of space in the city. Sopheap Meng and his older brother Sovaan were on the Rainbow Bridge, a structure spanning barely 50 metres, connecting Cambodia's capital with Koh Pich, also known as Diamond Island, at the heart of the annual Water Festival. The three-day festival, Bon Om Touk, is the biggest party of the year here. It causes the normally sleepy city to swell by more than 2 million people, international and domestic visitors coming for the parties and the boat races, and to give thanks for the end of the rainy season.

The streets of Phnom Penh

But shortly before 10pm, the night of celebration turned disastrous. A big crowd of people packed on to the narrow Rainbow footbridge panicked, surged and created a crush. In a few terrifying minutes the crush led to deaths of 378 or more people, and left more than 700 injured. Cambodia's prime minister, Hun Sen, described the occurrence as the greatest tragedy to befall the country since the blood-soaked rule of the Khmer Rouge. Most of those who died were from the rural areas, unwilling to jump from the bridge because they could not swim; they did not know the water was only waist deep. Most were young, and most women, unable to resist the weight of humanity pushing them to the ground. They suffocated on the bridge, or drowned having fallen unconscious into the water.

Sopheap Meng had gripped his brother's hand as tightly as he could. He fought the crush pushing him to the ground. "But there was no air, I could not breathe. I got pushed to the side of the bridge, people were falling all around, on to my arm, and I had to let go." Rescued by police from the crush which had pinned his legs, it was hours before 18-year-old Sopheap found his brother again. Sovaan's corpse was pulled from the heap of bodies on Rainbow Bridge. What sparked the panic is the subject of countless theories. Some at the scene yesterday said it started when word swept among the tightly packed crowd that the bridge was about to collapse. One witness said he saw the bridge bouncing under the weight of the people. Others said the panic started when the multicoloured lights strung from the suspension ropes began sparking.

There were still more rumours – of mass food poisoning starting the crush, or a gang of youths robbing the crowd. It could be that there were just too many people on the narrow concrete footbridge. Lin was right in the middle of the bridge with his girlfriend Ni when the crush became unbearable. "I realised I could not move," Lin told the Guardian. "I could not go back, I could not go forward. People were pushing from everywhere and there was nothing I could do. I was right in the middle, everyone around me was falling, one on top of another, they were being crushed. There were dead people all around me." His girlfriend survived too, shaken but uninjured. "We are the lucky ones today. One in 1,000 lucky. Two more minutes and I would have fallen too."

Boupha Lak sat at her dead daughter's feet, gentling stroking them, waiting for the paperwork to be completed so she could take her home. Boupha said: "She went to the festival to see her friends, but she was alone on the bridge when it happened – her friends I have seen today, they were on the other side. She was found on the bridge, crushed underneath all the other bodies. They told me she was on the bottom." In the late afternoon, more than one hundred monks held a Buddhist vigil at the bridge, burning incense and offering prayers for the souls of the deceased.

The Rainbow Who Lost Her Colours Part Two: The Quest for Red.

That night Isabelle and Alastair’s mother tucked them into bed. As she hugged them good night they were enveloped in her love. And they knew just what to do to help the rainbow. As the sun rose over the horizon the two children made their way to their Grandmother’s house. She always seemed to know just when they were coming, for as they came over the rise there she was at the gate of her little cottage. Her wild white hair curled down her back and her sunny smile welcomed them in to a garden filled with a riot of roses. Every year lovers came to beg a red rose from their Granny. They said she grew magic roses that could lead them to true love. “Why have you come to brighten up my day today?” she asked the children smiling. Isabelle laughed and said, “We love you Granny!” “I love you too,” she said, “And I think I know what you are here for. Come with me.”

The old lady danced along the winding paths leading to the centre of her garden. In the middle grew a magnificent rose-bush and on it a perfect red rose. “You can only find your way to true love if your heart is pure,” she said. “That is why I let those who come here wander free through the garden. If they can find their way here, they can find love too.” She reached up and carefully cut the rose from the tree and handed it to Isabelle. “Look after it carefully, my dear. Love should always be freely given and expect nothing in return.” Holding the rose Isabelle and Alastair started the long walk back home to the rainbow. On their way they heard a couple shouting. “Why are you fighting with each other?” asked Alastair. “She doesn’t trust me!” shouted the young man. “He doesn’t care about me!” shouted the woman. Alastair looked at Isabelle and she nodded.

She picked a single petal of the rose and passed to the couple. They breathed in the scent of the rose and immediately they stopped fighting. “I love you,” they said to one another. “You see,” said Alastair, “Granny was right, you can only give love, you can’t demand it.” Not long after they passed a man about to give a small boy a hiding. “What did he do?” asked Isabelle. “What did he do? Ha!” said the man, “He disrespects his mother. He disobeys me, his father.” Isabelle reached down to the rose and gave the man a petal. As soon as touched it, his face changed and all the anger drained out of him. “I love you my child,” he said to the boy. The boy looked up all tears forgotten and threw his arms around his father, “I love you too, Daddy” he said. Then they came across a woman in tears staring at her reflection in the still water of a pond.

“Why are you crying?” they asked. “I am so ugly,” she said. “No-one will ever love me.” Isabelle gave her a rose petal. The young lady wiped her eyes with it and when she looked into the water again she gasped, “Is that me? In the water?” “Yes,” said the children. “Am I that beautiful?” she asked. Isabelle said, “Yes, the magic of the rose has let you love yourself.” On their way they met many people each who needed love in one way or another. Each time they gave away a petal from the rose. When they came back to the rainbow they only had one petal left. “Oh rainbow,” they cried, “We are so sorry, we bought you the rose of love, but we gave away all the petals!” Suddenly they heard a noise behind them. Turning around they saw all the people they had met that day. Each one carried a petal from the rose. One by one they laid them at the foot of the rainbow. Isabelle and Alastair told everyone to hold hands and as loud as they could they all shouted together, “We love you Rainbow!” All at once it began to glow and the rose petals flowed into the arch of red bringing the love of the rainbow back to life.

Harrison consecutively struck two Taliban machine gunners south of Musa Qala in Helmand Province in Afghanistan at a range of 2,475 m (2,707 yd) using an [Accuracy International .338 Lapua]  L115A3 Long Range Rifle. In a BBC interview, Harrison reported it took about nine shots for him and his spotter to initially range the target successfully. Then, he reported, his first shot “on target” was a killing shot followed consecutively by a kill shot on a second machine gunner then a third which disabled the machine gun

British sniper Sgt. Craig Harrison, who is officially credited with the world’s two longest sniper kills: 2,475 m (2,707 yd).

Sgt. Craig Harrison was using a Schmidt & Bender 5-25 scope set on 15 power. Because that scope has a FFP reticle that covers up the lower half of the reticle’s stadia when the scope is set to 25x, he had to dial it back to 15x in order to use the full range of the stadia. Sgt. Harrison was standing when he made the shots, and was resting the rifle up against a wall of a building. The flight time of the bullet was about six seconds, and so he fired the second kill shot before the first had even reached its target.
