Grandaddy - Cabin in My Mind
Grandaddy is an American indie rock band from Modesto, California. The group was formed in 1992, and featured Jason Lytle, Aaron Burtch, Jim Fairchild, Kevin Garcia and Tim Dryden, until Garcia's death in 2017 following a stroke. After several self-released records and cassettes, the band signed to Will Records in the US and later the V2 Records subsidiary Big Cat Records in the UK, going on to sign an exclusive deal with V2. The bulk of the band's recorded output was the work of Lytle, who worked primarily in home studios. Grandaddy released four studio albums before splitting in 2006, with band members going on to solo careers and other projects. Grandaddy reformed in 2012, and after several successful tours, released its fifth studio album, Last Place, in March 2017. Following Garcia's sudden death, the band cancelled its touring plans for the release and re-entered an extended hiatus. In 2024, Lytle revived the Grandaddy name to release the project's sixth studio album, Blu Wav.
"Cabin In My Mind"
Well, it's a long and lonely road
But there's a safe and loving glow
Beyond the curve where you once were
And built upon the purest dirt
Going to the cabin
I'm going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
To the cabin in my mind
And I don't ever wanna leave
Because this life is not a dream
Beyond the curve where you once were
And built upon the precious earth
Going to the cabin
I'm going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
To the cabin in my mind
Going to the cabin
I'm going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
Going to the cabin
To the cabin in my mind
Going to the cabin
Going to the cabin in my mind

Kathy Yaeji Lee was born August 6, 1993, in Flushing, Queens, as a single child in a Korean family. She moved from New York to Atlanta when she was 5, and then to South Korea in the third grade. She embraced DJing as a hobby while attending Carnegie Mellon, crediting the afterhours electronic music dance party Hot Mass with her "indoctrination into nightlife." Yaeji graduated from Carnegie Mellon in 2015.

Jim Legxacy - old place
Jim Legxacy - old place
First of all, for those who don’t know you – who is Jim Legxacy?
Jim Legxacy, ahh, good question! I’m a 21-year-old producer, rapper & singer from SE London & I make music about my life. I thoroughly enjoy conceptualising my thoughts and illustrating them with my voice or beats that I make.
How did you come up with your add-on ‘Legxacy’?
To be honest, I actually can never remember why I called myself that, it felt good at the time. The word ‘legacy’ feels empowering when you hear it, I think something about the name reminds me that I’m here to leave something bigger, you know?
Have you always wanted to get a career in music or was it just a coincidence that you’re in this game now?
I used to want to be a fireman, then a game developer, then a graphic designer, I was fixated on graphic design till I turned 18 when I started to fall in love with rap! I then decided to start making my own stuff.
Your sound has a really interesting and refreshing influence of different vibes – who would you say are your biggest inspirations musically?
Biggest influences… this questions answers will always be different but the constants are JPEGMAFIA, MF DOOM, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, SZA & Kendrick Lamar! All for different reasons.
Your debut EP found great acclaim and now you’re due to release a sophomore EP this year, can you already let us know what we can await? Will it differ any sonically from your previous one?
Dynasty was cool because it was like “ah fuck I’m such an emotional 18-year-old, I’m confused look at all these confusing emotions”! Whereas on the next project I’m kind of grasping how I view things now and really maturing with these emotions, having more precise and acute feelings with myself! From a sonic standpoint, I wanted to merge indie elements with trap music! I was listening to a lot of rock stuff & trap stuff so I wanted the energy and aesthetic of rock but with trap drums to offer listeners a bizarre experience.
How have your studies at art school helped you with your journey? Do you reckon you can navigate through your music career better because of your experience over there?
Art School is sick! A huge inspiration from art school was my lecturer Mark, (he’s off in Canada doing Canadian stuff now!) but he influenced me so much. He kept integrating politics & ethics into our art direction lectures and it was the first time I was challenged with presenting important topics in a way that would come off interesting for the consumers as well as interesting for me as a creator. So I would definitely say that has had a HUGE positive effect on how I write.
What are your thoughts about the current music scene in the UK?
I think the UK scene is in a good place right now, lots of artists feeling more and more confident in their own sounds. I’m not too big on a lot of the mainstream stuff but there are still artists that I love and are making great music like Headie One & Skepta, they are CRAZY to me. But really I like the more underground scene because that’s where I feel I reside and just seeing young fresh minds fighting to get their foot in is much more interesting & inspiring to me.
“My heritage has shown me a lot of good traits and values growing up such as sharing & overall kindness in general, but I think in a country like this it’s also led to a lot of mistreatment purely due to the deeply integrated ‘anti-blackness’…”

John Oates, the mustachioed half of the iconic pop-rock duo Hall & Oates, isn’t sure just how many women he slept with during the 70s. “I’m sure it was thousands, I’ve lost track,” the 71-year-old rocker told Page Six. As for how he did it, he explained, “If you didn’t live through the 70s and 80s, if you weren’t a rockstar during that time, there’s no way you can comprehend what it was like. There were no cell phones and people taking pictures of everything you did. There was no social media.” He continued, “It was much more innocent. I used to meet girls in various towns and sort of have a relationship. I might see them and then see them six months later.” Despite those decades being infamous for cocaine and drug abuse in the music world, Oates maintains he never had a drug problem.
“Coke was ubiquitous,” he notes. “Daryl [Hall] and I never had our issues with it because we never did it. I tried it back in the Studio 54 days and it made me feel so uncomfortable that I couldn’t do it. It just wasn’t my thing.
“Both Daryl and I knew that we were going to be musicians for the rest of our lives and the only way for us to be musicians for the rest of our lives was to keep our s–t together.”
But the band suffered their own issues in the form of money mismanagement. At one point Oates discovered that although he had residences in New York, Connecticut and Aspen, an airplane and a garage full of vintage cars, he was cash poor.
“It’s embarrassing to me to realize now that I should have been more aware and knowledgable of what was going on but I was swept up in being a pop star,” he confessed. “It was too easy to party, to play my music.”
Oates eventually sold everything but kept his condo in Aspen, where he moved to start fresh. He remarried, had a son and now views his financial hardship in a positive light. “It changed everything. If I had stayed with all the accouterments and just continued to live that lifestyle, who knows where I would be. So, in the end, it was a blessing in disguise,” he said. Part of his fresh start was shaving off his iconic mustache, which felt like “shedding my skin metaphorically,” he told us. “I wanted to be a different person. I didn’t want to be that 80s guy with the giant mustache and it was more of a ceremonial shaving. I shaved it off, it was gone. I became someone else.” Currently, Oates maintains a neatly trimmed goatee and mustache and laughingly refers to himself as “the patron saint of facial hair” for the millennial generation.

Stevland Hardaway Morris born May 13, 1950), known professionally as Stevie Wonder, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is credited as a pioneer and influence by musicians across a range of genres that include R&B, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz. A virtual one-man band, Wonder's use of synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments during the 1970s reshaped the conventions of contemporary R&B. He also helped drive such genres into the album era, crafting his LPs as cohesive and consistent, in addition to socially conscious statements with complex compositions. Blind since shortly after his birth, Wonder was a child prodigy who signed with Motown's Tamla label at the age of 11, where he was given the professional name Little Stevie Wonder.

"California Love" is a song by American rapper 2Pac featuring fellow American rapper-producer Dr. Dre and American singer Roger Troutman of the funk group Zapp. The song was released as 2Pac's comeback single after his release from prison in 1995 and was his first single as the newest artist of Death Row Records. The original version is featured on the UK version of his fourth album, All Eyez on Me (1996), and is one of 2Pac's most widely known and most successful singles. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks (as a double A-side single with "How Do U Want It") and also topped the charts of Italy, New Zealand, and Sweden. The song was posthumously nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997.
Tupac Amaru Shakur - TOO-pahk shə-KOOR; born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper. Considered one of the most influential and successful rappers of all time, he is among the best-selling music artists, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. His lyrical content has been noted for addressing social injustice, violence, and the marginalization of African-Americans.
Shakur was born on June 16, 1971, in East Harlem, Upper Manhattan, New York City. While born Lesane Parish Crooks, at age one he was renamed Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was named after Túpac Amaru II, a descendant of the last Incan ruler, who was executed in Peru in 1781 after his failed revolt against Spanish rule. Shakur's mother Afeni Shakur explained, "I wanted him to have the name of revolutionary, indigenous people in the world. I wanted him to know he was part of a world culture and not just from a neighborhood." Tupac's surname came from Lumumba Shakur, a Sunni Muslim, whom his mother married in November 1968, their marriage fell apart when it was discovered that Lumumba was not Tupac's biological father.
Shakur had an older stepbrother, Mopreme "Komani" Shakur, and a half-sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, two years his junior. In the 1980s, Shakur's mother found it difficult to find work and she struggled with drug addiction. In 1984, his family moved from New York City to Baltimore, Maryland. He attended eighth grade at Roland Park Middle School, then ninth grade at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He transferred to the Baltimore School for the Arts in the tenth grade, where he studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet. He performed in Shakespeare's plays—depicting timeless themes, now seen in gang warfare, he would recall—and as the Mouse King role in The Nutcracker ballet. At the Baltimore School for the Arts, Shakur befriended actress Jada Pinkett, who became a subject of some of his poems. With his friend Dana "Mouse" Smith as beatbox, he won competitions as reputedly the school's best rapper. Also known for his humor, he could mix with all crowds. He listened to a diverse range of music that included Kate Bush, Culture Club, Sinéad O'Connor, and U2.

Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini (Zulu pronunciation: ['zandile 'ɮamini]; born October 21, 1995), known professionally as Doja Cat (/ˈdoʊdʒə/), is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she began making and releasing music on SoundCloud as a teenager. Her song "So High" caught the attention of Kemosabe and RCA Records, with whom she signed a recording contract prior to the release of her debut extended play, Purrr! in 2014. After a hiatus from releasing music and the uneventful rollout of her debut studio album, Amala (2018), Doja Cat earned viral success as an internet meme with her 2018 single "Mooo!", a novelty song in which she makes humorous claims about being a cow. Capitalizing on her growing popularity, she released her second studio album, Hot Pink, in the following year. The album later reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 and spawned the single "Say So"; its remix featuring Nicki Minaj topped the Billboard Hot 100. Her third studio album, Planet Her (2021), spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard 200 and spawned the top ten singles "Kiss Me More" (featuring SZA), "Need to Know", and "Woman". Her fourth studio album, Scarlet (2023), adopted a hip hop-oriented sound and peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200, while its lead single "Paint the Town Red" became her most successful song to date, as it marked her first solo number-one on the Hot 100 among eight other countries.
Described by The Wall Street Journal as "a skilled technical rapper with a strong melodic sense and a bold visual presence", Doja Cat is known for creating videos and performances which achieve virality on social media platforms such as TikTok. Well-versed in Internet culture, she is also famed for her absurdist online personality and stage presence. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including one Grammy Award from sixteen nominations, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, and five MTV Video Music Awards. She is one of the biggest commercial artists of the 2020s according to Billboard, and was included on the 100 most influential people in the world by Time in 2023.
